Greetings All,
Welcome to the first edition of the Sunday Poetry series for 2009.
I was thinking about the evolution of Humanity and wondering why it is that we have yet to collectively agree that peace is possible. Are humans really just incapable of living in harmony with the planet and each other?
Religionist's point to centuries of failure where that is concerned as proof of their point that man is inherently tainted and in need of salvation in order to enter the perfect Kingdom of "their" God.
I realize what I am about to say, some might find highly offensive and sacrilegious even, but it is my humble belief that the human condition would change immediately and drastically for the better if the majority of people stopped using the very convenient myth of inherent unworthiness as an excuse to behave in that way.
I am not an Atheist, I believe in a Higher Consciousness. Call it whatever you happen to like. I don't believe this Source Consciousness is into such petty things as what name you choose to use for it.
Petty people are though.
As a part of that Source consciousness we too have the ability to choose to be free from that kind of pettiness (or any other) that spreads and escalates into all manner of ugliness and pain. So, just who is it that benefits in our remaining ignorant of this, our not believing that we have the power to choose and pursue a higher road for ourselves and our world?
We should be working collectively to expose the sources of this lie and working together to end it because the ones who are benefiting from it do not represent the majority of us Humans.
A poem for the New year
The Human Seasons
John Keats
Four Seasons fill the measure of the year;
There are four seasons in the mind of man:
He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear
Takes in all beauty with an easy span:
He has his Summer, when luxuriously
Spring's honeyed cud of youthful thought he loves
To ruminate, and by such dreaming high
Is nearest unto Heaven: quiet coves
His soul has in its Autumn, when his wings
He furleth close; contented so to look
On mists in idleness—to let fair things
Pass by unheeded as a threshold brook:—
He has his Winter too of pale misfeature,
Or else he would forego his mortal nature.
Peace Y'all

It seems to me that many humans just have the unquenchable desire for their share and more. Why else would some super wealthy individuals choose to live in a mega mansion, when obviously much less would do? Compare Warren Buffet's simple home with that of some Hollywood stars. It is a mindset, not a prerequisite, of having money.
Is it nature or nurture?
Greed is an animalistic tendency that can be found in most species. We're not too far removed from the dogs in that regard, sadly.
Having said that.... you are on a journey through spiritual realms, which I had the discipline for. I am relegated to presently digging up some political history. I find your journey more uplifting than mine is :)
Greetings DOM,
And
JR,
I got comment box lock-up and lost the response I had for you guys and am attempting to re-write it...lol.
DOM,
My hope is that more folks will come to realize that a bigger house does not equate with bigger happiness and a bigger bank account is not what brings inner peace. May they have a good laugh at how simple and uncomplicated peace and love really are when and if they ever find it. The only really important part is to simply and humbly begin to seek it and accept it in whatever humble form it may present itself.
JR,
While we share a lot of things with many creatures we are the only consciousness on the planet that has the ability to look back upon itself and evaluate our actions and our feelings and make value judgments about how they affect ourselves and our world. That is why we are truly responsible for ourselves and our world.
I am sure political history research does not take up all your time. Take 5 minutes and feel how great it feels to breathe. What a miracle of infinite proportions that simple feat is. It won't be long before you start making time for things like that. Then it is not long until you start feeling better. Better is good. Joy is even better than money...lol.
thanks for commenting and reading y'all,
kim
