Killing For McCain?

It was just a bear cub and the political statement was probably an afterthought anyway.

No big deal, right?

I don't really know what to say about someone who would leave a dead bear cub at Western Carolina University with Obama signs on its head except that they are an example of the worst, so far, in a long list of people who are committing racist/terrorist acts in opposition to someone who hasn't and or in support of their right wing candidate, John McCain.

How stupid is that?
How beyond hypocritical?
What in the hell is wrong with these people?

It makes perfect sense doesn't it? What else would you do with a dead bear cub, whose mother you more than likely killed too, but use it to make a political statement of your terminal redneck-ness by leaving it on a University campus with Obama signs on its head.

Bear season is in full swing here in North Carolina and while those who have been doing this for generations call it a "tradition", I live at bear hunting ground zero and disgusting is what I call it. I am not opposed to hunting but this is hardly sporting.

How sporting is it to turn starving dogs loose that have been chained to a plastic barrel all year, through winter and summer, to run unabated through the mountains and other people's property, and when they run the bear down or up a tree the gallant hunters take a break from their beer drinking and beer can littering to stroll up and shoot it?

I was at my office the other day as a patient told the Doctor I work with about the bad luck they had on the hunt last week. Seems the damned old bear, a big one too, got stuck up in the tree when they shot it...stupid bear. The Doctor I work with asked why they did not cut down the tree? The guy replied "nah...it was big 'ole oak, too nice to cut down...and anyway they were not sure whose property they were on anyway and the owner might not like it if they cut it down". So, they just killed the bear and left it hanging in the tree.

That is the tradition known as Bear Hunting in North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.

I know there must be a reason for things like fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and people like this, I suppose we have to have the bad to appreciate the good, but it does not make it any easier to tolerate them when it seems they will never evolve. I think the political preferences of people like this speaks volumes about them and the candidate they prefer.

Peace Y'all

What you say is so true. Thanks for writing this post to let more people become aware of the thoughtlessness of these killings. And not only in NC, all over the world, actually. It has always made my blood boil, when people do criminal things in the name of tradition. We were born with a brain afterall, why not use it once in a while...

Greetings Duni,

I would like to get law involved to help these dogs that have only a plastic barrel and a chain for cover in the bitter cold up here but this sort of thing is apparently an acceptable way to treat "hunting dogs" here. I live in the middle of national forest land and the game warden told me that if the dogs are "in pursuit" of the bear onto my property the law gives the hunters the right to come on my property and kill the bear without my consent. Thankfully that has not happened yet because I definitely would be going to jail over what would transpire in the event that were to occur on my property.

Thanks for reading and for commenting.

This is absolutely sickening. What is wrong with people?
