Was this economic "meltdown" some sort of fluke of life that just sort of "happened"? I have to say this sure looks like yet another tool to transfer the wealth of our nation into the hands of a small group of people. 9/11 and the subsequent Iraq war, in my opinion, are also tools being used to that same end.
The article I am posting today is over at Op-Ed News and takes a very sharp look at the latest financial front in this war of terror on the middle class. An Economic 9/11. Does the way Wall Street and Banks have been doing business seem just a little too insane to have been a simple lack of judgement to anyone else? Could it be that the people at the top of the firms taking the kind of risks no self-respecting economist could ever make a case for knew the government would have no other choice than to come to the economy's (their) rescue regardless who pushed the "meltdown" button?
When you factor in George Bush's response to fixing the problem...trust is not happening for me here...one page with a simple statement to hand over the money and no one gets hurt...oh...and no one gets to see what we are doing with the money either...that should come as no surprise after several hundred signing statements effectively allowing him to do whatever he wants regardless of those tedious little things called laws and that damned piece of paper Americans are still so hung up on, the Constitution. No wonder Congress said no to that deal...can you say "opportunity to get in on the action?" Can the middle class tax-payers get a little justice here or are we just going to shut up and give these Wall Street criminals the rest of our money?
To say that I am disappointed that Barack Obama, by voting for this bill, may apparently be on board with this would be an understatement. If I felt like I had another viable choice to vote for this November this would probably make my decision to do so.
Unfortunately our two party shared dictatorship does not allow for Americans to vote for a third party candidate with any hope of anything than just throwing your vote in the election garbage can. I feel like I have to vote for Obama because I sure as hell can't vote for McCain/Palin. I think I will convince myself that he is going along with this because he feels like he has to and if elected will work to change this gang raping of the American middle class. Maybe he will or maybe he is bought and paid for too...I have no illusions about it...but I guess we will see, won't we?
Shock and Awe: Bipartisan Beltway Terrorists Launch Economic 9/11 on the American People
by Chris Floyd
You've seen the news. You know the score. The House of Representatives has now completed the economic terrorist attack inflicted on the American people by the nation's elite.
The bailout bill -- or as Arthur Silber more rightly terms it, the "Extortion Bill" -- is already law, thanks to the Democrats in Congress, and to Barack Obama, who spent the day working the phones and twisting arms to make sure the $700 billion bonanza for the filthy rich passed without any more of the hiccups that held it up earlier this week.
The plan that Obama made his own -- despite its origins in the poison kitchen of the Bush White House -- is far worse than the version voted down on Monday. Every reputable economic expert says that the plan is unworkable; it will not solve the problems at the root of the current economic crisis, but will only make them worse. It entrenches many of the fraudulent practices that led to the meltdown in the first place, and rewards the perpetrators for their misdeeds with a gargantuan amount of public money, which they can now use to carry on largely as before, albeit with a few new toothless "oversight" mechanisms operated by their own Wall Street cronies, and their bribed-and-bought hirelings on Capitol Hill.
