Right wingers keep telling me about this so called "liberal media" they hate so much.
Since the onset of media consolidation and the FCC sellout to those who are trying to continue the trend until there is just one AP wire that feeds all news outlets the same official story, I have been hearing this label applied anytime the media even attempts to look at power and how that power is sucking the lifeblood out of our country and the world at large. The sheeple do get nervous when the herd gets upset but that is no reason for us to overlook the presence of the wolf, is it?
Over time, I wondered when journalists were going to finally realize that they are not safer by not speaking out about their experiences in this new homogenized media landscape. It appears that some of them have now decided to tell their stories about being gagged while trying to bring us the stories we need to know in a book titled Into The Buzzsaw.
One of my favorite contributors over at Op-Ed News, Fred Burks, has the scoop on this great book complete with some very interesting sneak-preview excerpts from some of the award winning journalists who have come forward to tell their stories of media corruption.
Here is the lead into his great read...check it out.
The riveting excerpts below are from the revealing accounts of 20 award-winning journalists in the highly acclaimed book Into the Buzzsaw. These courageous writers were prevented by corporate media ownership from reporting major news stories. Some were even fired or laid off. They have won numerous awards, including several Emmys and a Pulitzer. Join in building a better world by helping to spread this news across the land.Liberal media, my ass.
Jane Akre-Fox News. After our struggle to air an honest report [on hormones in milk], Fox fired the general manager [of our station]. The new GM said that if we didn't agree to changes that the lawyers were insisting upon, we'd be fired for insubordination in 48 hours. We pleaded with [him] to look at the facts we'd uncovered. His reply: "We paid $3 billion dollars for these stations. We'll tell you what the news is. The news is what we say it is!" [After we refused] Fox's GM presented us an agreement that would give us a full year of salary, and benefits worth close to $200,000, but with strings attached: no mention of how Fox covered up the story and no opportunity to ever expose the facts. [After declining] we were fired... Read the rest of the story
Peace y'all

There was a great documentary on PBS a year or so ago called WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception which dealt with the same subject, how the media was pressured to not go against the Bush Administration in it's crusade for war.
Shame really, it might have saved us a whole lot of money all around not to mention the lives it would have saved.
