I had a vision
of our nation dying.
It died the death
of empires before it.
It wasn't the enemy of the day
It wasn't the greedy Wall Street CEO
It wasn't the wrath of God
It was the myth of separation made real
by the smallest acts of selfishness
accumulated.
It was us.
It will be our simple, collective lack of compassion that kills us all.
It wasn't the fault of the selfless
but the selfless are always the first to suffer.
The canaries in the coal mines
That become the despised and the spat upon
by a world that would rather die than evolve.
We still have time to choose compassion.
And I wonder, why do those who hate fear it so?
When selfishness equals death what makes it the path so many insist upon?
Trouble like we have never seen is at the door.
Perhaps you have noticed.
Time is running out, my friends.
This is not just a game of schoolyard rivalries.
When you cast your vote this November
Look into your heart
and vote for the closest thing to compassion you can discern
because our hate and selfishness cannot save us now.
Peace y'all

Like many of us, every single day...I fight a hard battle. And, at the end of each day, when I look into my cup, I realize that my compassion keeps sinking lower and lower.
I'm struggling like one who cannot swim, trying to keep from drowning in my own compassionlessness.
Now, more than ever before, it seems those who have too much compassion are too often taken for granted.
Thanks for the reminder and wake up call.
Greetings J,
I think to wrap our consciousness around love and compassion and bring it into physical form is one of the great truths about what we are here to do. It certainly is not easy and this piece was me talking to myself about and trying to make sense of it when I begin to lose my grip on compassion.
Thanks for your comment and for being a regular reader, I really appreciate it.

It IS the selfless that suffer the most. And that it why I think so many have given up as they've been taken advantage of (well, generally speaking). I am a Liberal, but I don't consider myself to be selfless by any stretch of the term.
I am a bit jaded, and justifiably so. Ya kinda have to be if you live in the US.
Greetings VM,
Yes, I see your point.
Without getting to esoteric about it I think I could clarify my definition of "selfless" as being only one side of a duality that has on its other being "self-centered". Not in a bad way but a healthy way...sort of like putting your oxygen mask on first then assisting others to do the same. the balance of the two is where I think I was going with this little train of thought.
thanks for reading and taking the time to leave your thoughts. I really appreciate it.
